The Grade 1 classes are most suitable for those who are between 7 and 8 years old, however it can also be a good starting point for those who just starting ballet for the first time and are a little bit older. Students broaden their ballet vocabulary and go deeper into the technique of what they have learned so far. They learn the difference between classical and character dancers and work on the details of each style. They will also get introduced to solo dances, of which one is a character dance.
DCK teachers follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, while also including other elements to improve flexibility, coordination, strength and develop turn-out in a safe and healthy way. If students are motivated and consistent in their training they can apply to take a Class Award or Exam with an examiner from the Royal Academy of Dance. For a student to be ready for their RAD exam in Grade 1, they need to take Grade 1 Ballet at least twice per week.
